To keep us all safe, we have introduced some new protocols to the practice. For new patients, a case history will be taken from you over the phone. This will help minimise contact time in the clinic. On the day before the appointment, or the evening before, if the appointment is first thing, you will be called to ensure that you do not have any relevant symptoms.
On arrival at the clinic, you will be expected to disinfect your hands with the hand sanitiser gel and then don the provided face mask. You will then have a non-contact temperature check to ensure no sign of fever. If fever or any other COVID-19 symptoms are found, then treatment will be postponed.
I have introduced additional PPE for myself, which includes disposable face mask, gloves and apron. If necessary, I may use additional eye protection during the treatment. All disposable PPE is only used once and is safely discarded following treatment. I also change my outer clothing and foot ware after each clinic ‘session’, which is four hours. The clinic room is vented for 30 minutes and then surfaces cleaned and made ready prior to the next appointment.
It would also ask that you arrive dressed ready for treatment, rather than bringing a change of clothes, and that you have visited the bathroom before arrival. To minimise waste and cleaning, I have decided, for now, not to provide towels in the room. I would be very grateful therefore, if you would bring a clean towel with you. If you are someone who is sheltering or would prefer an online consultation, consider booking a telehealth appointment. This way, you can get help with any pain or problem you are having, without putting yourself at any risk of infection. I know it’s not quite the same hands-on experience, but it’s the next best thing.
