Your Treatment
We will take a detailed medical history from you to learn about the history of the symptoms and to gain important additional information by asking specific questions. This is then followed up by a hands-on examination using special orthopaedic tests, if required.
In some cases you may feel mild discomfort at the beginning. However, treatment is delivered with low amounts of energy at first, which is then increased as the body gets used to it.
Shockwave and EMTT is not a short-term single treatment therapy. The benefit is cumulative with treatments typically given weekly. The patient is advised to commit to the prescribed weekly treatments otherwise the treatment effect may be delayed or diminished.
Shockwave therapy is often given in conjunction with exercise rehabilitation.
Our shockwave equipment is by the Swiss company Storz Medical - which is widely considered to be the best available. It is the same equipment used by major NHS/Private Hospitals and elite sports clubs around the world.

Shockwave therapy is suitable for adults.

Shockwave therapy is not suitable for those who:
* Are pregnant
* Had a steroid injection to the site within the last twelve weeks
* Have a blood clotting disorder
* Are taking antiplatelet or anticoagulant medication
* Have cancer or infection to the treatment area
* Are under 18 (with the exception of Osgood Schlatters disease)

Each therapy session lasts between 20 and 30 minutes depending on the disorder being treated.

You may experience some discomfort during treatment but the pain should be tolerable. Due to the analgesic effect of Shockwave Therapy many patients report immediate pain relief following treatment.

Yes. It has NICE guidance for a large number of indications and is used within the NHS.

The number of treatment sessions will vary depending on the condition being treated. On average, four to six sessions are required at weekly intervals. The healing/recovery process may continue for another couple of months after treatment has finished.

The effect of extracorporeal shock wave therapy (ESWT) on the human body has been intensively researched for more than three decades. For individual medical conditions such as heel pain (plantar fasciitis), studies have now clearly proven it is effective for up to 90% of patients.
