REHABILITATION & TREATMENT FOR SPORTS INJURIES

Sports Injury Treatment with Shockwave Therapy & EMTT(®)

Athletes choose shockwave therapy as a treatment option due to its ability to accelerate the healing process of injuries, such as tendonitis, plantar fasciitis, achilles tendinopathy or runners knee. Not all shockwaves are the same. Unlike many other clinics, here we have a choice of Radial and Focused Shockwave equipment. The Focused device is superior in many ways.

Reasons athletes choose Focused Shockwave Therapy

  • Targeted Treatment: Focused shockwave therapy precisely targets the injured area, delivering energy directly to the affected tissues, whereas radial shockwave therapy disperses energy over a broader area.

  • Deeper Penetration: Focused shockwaves penetrate deeper into the tissue, reaching the source of the injury more effectively compared to radial shockwaves, which tend to stay more superficial.

  • Enhanced Healing: The concentrated energy of focused shockwaves promotes tissue regeneration and accelerates the healing process, resulting in quicker recovery times.

  • Improved Pain Relief: Deeper penetration and targeted treatment of focused shockwave therapy often lead to better pain relief compared to radial shockwave therapy.

  • Reduced Treatment Sessions: Focused shockwave therapy typically requires fewer treatment sessions to achieve desired results, saving time and resources for both athletes and healthcare providers.

  • Minimised Risk of Complications: The focused nature of shockwave therapy reduces the risk of damage to surrounding healthy tissues, minimising the potential for adverse effects or complications.

  • Customised Treatment Plans: Focused shockwave therapy allows for more customised treatment plans tailored to the specific needs of each athlete and their injury, optimising outcomes.

Overall, focused shockwave therapy offers superior targeting, deeper penetration, enhanced healing, and reduced treatment burden compared to radial shockwave therapy, making it a preferred option for acute sports injuries.

Shockwave & EMTT as a combination therapy with Osteopathy gives better and quicker outcomes when it comes to treating sports injuries. With an event deadline looming, athletes want to be better yesterday!

Rehabilitation is essential for full recovery from injury and the early return to training and competition. The nature and extent of injury and the body part affected will dictate the length of recovery but, generally, the sooner you get started the sooner you will recover. Minor strains and sprains can be managed using ‘RICE’ ( Rest. Ice. Compression. Elevation) for the first 48 hours. A managed recovery approach is advised when the injury is more serious, unexplained or has become chronic. Managed recovery will often include some of the following elements;

  • Shockwave & EMTT treatment

  • Soft tissue massage.

  • Stretching.

  • Joint/spinal manipulation.

  • Rhythmic techniques for stiff joints.

  • Sports Taping (Kinesio tape).

  • Acupuncture.

  • Prescribed exercise/stretching via Rehab My Patient(®)
